About Top-Flight

Top-Flight was established in 1989 by Leon Randerman. Leon has guided hunters and anglers professionally for 30 years. From 1989 until 2003 Leon split his time between running Top-Flight in the winter and guiding hunters and fisherman in Alaska during the summer and fall. In 2003, Leon sold his interest in the Alaska lodge to devote his full time to Top-Flight.

Top-Flight is a full  service lodge consisting of 400 acres of natural pasture land. The cover ranges from prairie grass to rose hedges to scattered oak trees. This provides explosive and unpredictable cover for the pheasant, chukar and quail. We realize that no two groups of hunters are the same. Whether you are a beginner, a veteran hunter or just a group of friends, we will do everything we can to accommodate the needs of your group. Corporate clients, we take great pride in being able to custom tailor our hunts and activities to suit your needs. From bird hunts to sporting clay shoots and meals, we will sit down and schedule an outing that will show you and your clients a safe and exciting day.

Tower Shoots

For fast and furious action, check out our tower shoots. Tower shoots designed to simulate European driven hunts are one of the fastest growing events in the preserve industry. As one customer put it after shooting four boxes of ammunition in 2 hours, “that is the most fun I have ever had wing shooting other than my trip to Argentina.”

Tower shoots or continental shoots are designed to simulate a European style driven pheasant shoot. Pheasants and sometime pigeons are released from a concealed tower in the trees. The tower is located in the center of a ring of 12 shooting stations each about 70 yards from the tower. Hunters rotate to different stations until they have completed the course. Most shots are passing shots ranging from 20 to 60 yards. A sucessful tower shoot requires a minimum of 18 hunters and a maximum of 40. We release 10 birds per shooter on the course and most hunters go though 2-4 boxes of ammunition. At the end of the shoot all birds are cleaned and packaged while lunch is served.

This year we will have 6 scheduled tower shoots, check the Top-Flight newsletter or the home page for the schedule announcement. We also offer private tower shoots for corporate events. We will work with you to plan a hunt that meets your needs. You can choose the number and type of birds released and the of course the meal is your choice. There is no better way to entertain a group of friends or customers.

Sporting Clays

Top-Flight holds one or two public fun shoots each year. These events are a great way to have some fun, hone your shooting skills, and meet other hunters. We can also arrange for private sporting clays events for those special corporate outings.

Argentina, Brazil And Other Destinations

After guiding others for 30 years, I am starting to travel and do a little hunting and fishing myself. For the last several years I have organized trips to Brazil, Argentina and of course Alaska. I also personally host several trips per year. If you would like to join us or go on your own, I can make all the necessary arrangements. I will do my best to advise you on the best times to go and what to expect. The trips listed below are some of my favorite. One key when I choose a destination is the size of the operation. Large establishments usually have less personal attention and more hunting and fishing pressure than the area can stand. I prefer the smaller operations, where you get better service, more attentive management an usually have the place to yourself. If you have been dreaming of doing a trip like this, give me a call and let's make it a reality.

Alaska

Even after guiding and running a lodge in Alaska for 18 years it is still one of my favorite destinations. I continue to organize trips to Midnight Sun Trophy Pike adventures, the lodge I co-founded and owned until I sold out in 2003. The pike fishing is truly world class and the accommodations 1st class. In addition to pike fishing we can arrange float trips for Rainbow, Dolly Varden, Artic Grayling and of course Salmon. I also still do trips to the Unalakleet river where I spent the first 9 years of my career in Alaska. Great salmon and grayling fishing with a beautiful lodge overlooking the river. Both of these trips are remote fly in destinations.

Brazil

I have personally made 5 trips to Brazil for the explosive Peacock Bass. The outfitter I use specializes in remote floating camps, which allow fishing in waters not accessible to the typical house boat trips or land based lodges. The camps are air conditioned and the food and service rank with the best. This is unbelievable fishing where it is not uncommon to catch 50 bass in one day, with some exceeding 20lbs. These trips take place August and January on remote tributaries of the Amazon and Rio Negro rivers.

Argentina

While we have all heard of the world class wing shooting in Cordoba, my partners in Argentina are sitting on the best kept secret. They are located north of Cordoba in the providence of Santiago Del Estero. At this time there are very few outfitters in the area and word is just starting to spread. What really makes this a unique destination is that you can hunt dove, pigeon, duck, perdiz and fish for golden dorado all within a short drive from the lodge and without having to relocate. The dove hunting is truly mind boggling; it is simply a matter of how much you want to shoot. This area also offers high volume pigeon shooting, 200 pigeons or more a day is not uncommon. The duck hunting is superb and the perdiz will put a quail to shame. In the fall we do cast and blast. Shooting doves and pigeons and fishing for golden dorado. The accommodations are four star and the food and service is simply outstanding. Once again, small groups of eight are preferable with a maximum of twelve. They also offer big game hunting for numerous species. The owners are also hands on and guide you personally. I will be hosting two trips there in 2009.
